Since forming in 2016, we in the GLASSKIBE collective have explored a wide range of Norse stories – both mythological and historical. Over the years, our attention has increasingly turned to the female figures in these tales. Among them, the Valkyries have captured us the most.Originally depicted as formidable warrior women and fate-weaving deities high in the Norse mythological order, the Valkyries have never disappeared. They’ve endured – and been reshaped or re-interpreted again and again across time, culture, and imagination. To us, they seem to serve as a kind of cultural mirror – a female archetype onto which each era projects its own ideas of womanhood.
Through the Valkyries, we can trace how societies have told stories about powerful – and often dangerous – women.
The four artists will be present for the opening of the show, ready to tell you more about the works.
